Straus Square is now connected to seward park

The New York City Department of Transportation, the Department of Parks, the Lower East Side Partnership, and the Seward Park Conservancy have cooperated to close Canal Street between Straus Square and Seward Park. The street has been repaved and planters have been installed. The next step is installation of street furniture, which is currently under construction.

After a long wait, the beautifully renovated basketball courts are open and already in full use. Thank you, Council Member Margaret Chin, for funding this project.

Whether you want to work in the garden, help at an event, share your expertise, or put together a daylong volunteer team project, the Conservancy wants to hear from you! Last year alone, the Conservancy benefited from more than 1,400 hours of volunteer time.
